Course Overview
This course provides a platform for debate and discussion regarding the comprehension of today’s society and an appropriate response towards a turbulent future, by exploring humanity’s past of intellectual reflection and practical action. By breaking down the barriers of individual disciplines and cultivating critical, interdisciplinary, and creative thinking skills, students develop diverse perspectives during the problem identification process and practice collaborating with others in order to reach a solution. As a result, this course implements a learner-centered approach by offering Flipped Class, QBL (Question Based Learning), and PBL (Problem Based Learning).

Course Description
This course is a student-led, discussion centered class designed to develop critical, creative, and interdisciplinary thinking by examining the intellectual history of humanity spanning across departments of humanities, social science, and natural science. “Exploration of the Academic World I” is a General Studies Required course designed to explore human values and understand the world by applying intellectual reflection through various disciplines mentioned above.

- Foster interdisciplinary thinking through applications of intellectual reflections across humanities, social sciences, and natural science
- Develop creative thinking skills by producing questions based on various perspectives and generating problem awareness on diverse topics
- Cultivate attitudes of valuing contribution to shared social values and setting personal goals on the basis of diverse social and cultural understanding
- Enhance empathy and communication skills through collaboration with peers and working towards a common goal

Curriculum Features
- Learner-Centered Curriculum Based on Flipped Class Model: after viewing a video related to Common General Studies, students engage in learner-centered activities such as a debate or a presentation within small groups
- Application of Innovative Teaching and Learning Methods: exploration of the Academic World I employs tactics from QBL (Question Based Learning) such as debate and discussions; Exploration of the Academic World II focuses on PBL (Problem Based Learning) by implementing critical, creative, and interdisciplinary skills within problem solving.
- Diverse Department Sections: as a result of free course selection, students from various backgrounds come together to engage in communication and collaboration among diverse departments
- Standardization of the General Studies Curriculum: a standardized education system of course content, schedule, and grading methods is implemented. Regular faculty workshops are also held to enhance educational quality.
