Advanced Writing

“Advanced Writing” strives to elevate the student’s writing skills to a professional level across various fields through training in specialized forms of writing.

  • Students admitted up to the 2017 school year who have not taken or are retaking the course <Thinking and Expression II (GETE012-014)> may register for <Advanced Writing> instead (In this case, it will be recognized as a Common General Studies course for graduation)
  • For students admitted in 2018 and beyond, it will be recognized as a General Studies Elective
  • First time enrollment and retaking of the course are both allowed during seasonal semesters
  • Each course section has a unique focus so students are encouraged to enroll in one that peaks their interest

 

Course Section Type
  • Professional Competency Enhancement Writing: focuses on self-evaluation by writing resumes and goal proposals. Students reflect on and assess their academic and professional experiences in order to build skills for future careers and further academic endeavors
  • Content Based Writing: writing based on digital content and big data such as social media. Students learn to apply the vast landscape of digital media in order to understand their distinctive characteristics and their impact on the evolution of writing
  • Reflective Writing: promoting introspection and self-exploration through writing. Students discover their value within the world by analyzing interpersonal relationships, personal discoveries, and insights. Furthermore, they become deeply immersed into critical thinking, contemplation of life’s direction and self-esteem.
